Biomass Boilers

  • More cost-effective than conventional boilers

  • Sustainable alternative to fossil fuels

  • Potential regular income through the RHI scheme

Biomass boiler systems, also known as wood-fuelled heating systems, are a low carbon way to provide heating and hot water for your home.

By burning sustainably-sourced wood chips and logs, biomass boilers are cost effective and carbon neutral.

Also, the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive could provide you with a regular income for years after installation.

Why choose Cooks for biomass boiler installation?

As plumbing and heating engineers, we’ve been installing biomass boilers for years.

We’re MCS-accredited installers, which means we’re recognised for the quality of our installations.

We pride ourselves on the quality and efficiency of our installation – and our service.

We are not affiliated to any particular product or manufacturer – we install many! - so we can always find a system that will be the right choice for you.

As experienced biomass boiler installers we will:

  • Visit your home to conduct a survey
  • Give you expert advice on whether a biomass boiler is the best choice for your home
  • Present a range of options, and help you choose the best system for your needs
  • Install your biomass boiler using our own employed team of installers – not sub-contractors

Here are some questions we’re often asked about biomass boiler systems.  Get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to answer any other questions you have!

How do biomass boilers work?

Biomass boilers burn wood chips, logs or pellets to provide heating and hot water for your home. Although you’re still burning a fuel, the biomass fuels available are sustainably produced, so the process is much kinder to the environment than burning traditional fossil fuels. A biomass boiler can replace your existing boiler, space permitting.

How much money could I save?

This depends on the type of existing heating system you have in your home. Typically, when replacing an electric storage heater system, you could expect to save up to £650 per annum.
In addition, through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (dRHI) scheme, you could also receive up to £3390 each year, for a period of seven years.  (Please read our dRHI page for more information.)

How much does a biomass boiler reduce carbon-dioxide emissions?

Considerably – a biomass boiler can reduce annual CO2 emissions by up to 14.5 tonnes when replacing an electric storage heater system.

Can a biomass boiler be combined with a solar thermal (hot water) system?

Yes – we can easily integrate a biomass boiler with a solar thermal system.  Talk to us if you’re planning to install both together so we can plan the most efficient system for you.

How big will the biomass boiler be, and where will it go?

The biomass boiler can be fitted in the same place as your existing boiler, space permitting. To house a boiler to heat a 2-3 bedroom house you’ll need a space approximately 5ft long x 4ft high x 2.5ft wide.
